“On the eve of the Cultural Revolution, in 1965, Tony Lambert was sharing the gospel with Chinese while studying the Chinese language at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London.
Thus began a lifelong passion for China. It has been his singular purpose to bring to the watching world the story of the survival and astonishing growth of the Church when engulfed in a sea of hostility. His meticulous research kept hope alive and fuelled prayer for the church when difficulties seemed insurmountable and darkness threatened to swamp light.
No one without a love for God and the Chinese could have sustained the high standard investigative fact finding and of scholarly writing that Tony has given to us.
This material, important as it is, forms the background to his theme. What matters supremely is the account of the church’s early history, tracing the powerful threats tot her survival, followed by breathtaking growth.
Make no mistake, the Anthology brings us face to face with the Sovereign God, whose purpose is to build His Church and extend His rule over all peoples even those utterly opposed to God’s people. It is to this great theme that Tony has dedicated his time, passion, and energy.”
